Qatar beach volleyball team’s campaign at the Rio Games ended with a 13-21, 13-21 defeat to Russia in the round of 16 at the Copacabana Beach Arena here on Friday.
Qatar’s Jefferson Pereira and Cherif Younesse who were making their debut in Olympics did their best, but the Russia’s Konstantin Semenov and Viacheslav Krasilnikov proved too good for them.
Krasilnikov and Semenov had won both the two previous meetings against Pereira and Cherif and it included one at FIVB Rio Grand Slam in March this year.
The Russian duo continued from where they had left in March as Qatar’s campaign came to a grinding halt.
