Al Rayyan and Al Wakrah clubs will participate in the fourth edition of the West Asian Men’s Volleyball Club Championship, scheduled to be held in Kuwait from February 2 to 14. The tournament serves as a qualifier for the upcoming Asian Club Championship, to be held in Indonesia from May 13 to 17.

The West Asian Volleyball Association announced on its official website the start of the countdown to the championship, which will feature some of the region’s top clubs. The draw for the tournament will take place on January 20.

Meanwhile, Al Wakrah is participating in the championship for the first time and is looking to make a strong showing, building on its impressive performance in the Qatar Men’s Volleyball League, where it topped the standings at the end of the first round of matches.

Al Rayyan of Qatar won the third edition of the tournament in February of last year, defeating Al Salam of Oman 3-0 in the final. Al Arabi of Qatar finished second with 13 points. Al Arabi also won the 2023 and 2024 editions and is aiming to retain the title.

The tournament is played in a single round-robin format, with points being accumulated to determine the final standings.

Mohammed Salem Al Kuwari, Secretary General of West Asian Volleyball Association, told that the WAVA Men’s Volleyball Club Championship has consistently achieved success with each edition. He noted the high level of competition among the participating teams, especially as the tournament serves as a qualifier for the upcoming Asian Club Championship, which gives it significant technical importance and reflects the development of the level of competition among clubs in the region.

Al Kuwari praised Al Rayyan Club’s achievements in winning the title three times in a row, and expressed his confidence in Al Wakrah’s ability to perform well in its first participation in the tournament, given the continuous organizational and technical development it is witnessing.
